We thought we would share some information about The Bobbin Mill Hall, located to the side of Howtown Hotel alongside Fusedale Beck. This building is very much part of the community and used for all types of social events, recreational activities, meetings and celebrations. On the 22nd June you are invited to an Ilustrated Talk by local resident Jane Brimmer - 'Writers in Martindale.'
The Bobbin Mill Hall is Martindale's village hall . It is situated just across the beck from Howtown Hotel. Also here are the former bobbin mill workers cottages, the coppice wood drying barn, glue and drying outhouses .
The former Bobbin Mill was water powered by the adjacent Fuesdale beck . It was built on the site of a former much older wool fulling mill .
The Bobbin Mill started operation in about 1825 making the wooden bobbins needed for the Lancaster cotton spinning mills . It was the industrial revolution come to 'farming Martindale ' .
The mill itself ultimately closed in the late 1800’s when steam made other mills more efficient .
